The Pyramids, the Sphinx and the new museum beside them.
The place
The last surviving wonder of the ancient world, the Great Sphinx, and the Grand Egyptian Museum on the edge of the plateau.
Nothing prepares you for the scale of the Great Pyramid. Built for the pharaoh Khufu around 4,500 years ago, it was the tallest structure made by human hands for nearly four thousand years.
Visit early in the morning with a guide, then spend the afternoon at the Grand Egyptian Museum, home to the complete treasure of Tutankhamun.
Highlights
The largest of the three pyramids and the last of the Seven Wonders still standing.
The lion-bodied guardian of the plateau, carved from the bedrock.
